Happy Fall Y'all

Updated: May 1, 2020

Even though the end of summer is of course upsetting, autumn is one of the best times of the year! With the weather getting a little cooler, the fall foliage, and the holiday season just around the corner, there are a ton of activities to look forward to and participate in. I decided to take some time out of my busy fall semester life to share some of my favorite fall activities with you. While these fall activities are "basic," I still think they are so fun!

Activity #1: Pumpkin Picking

The most basic of fall activities! For the last 5 years, I have gone pumpkin picking every single season. I always go to Scmitt's Family Farm, which is located in Melville, Long Island. The reason I enjoy this farm so much is because there is so much to do while you are there. For instance, along with pumpkin picking, there is a huge corn maze with a different theme and maze design every year (this year was zombies!), a sunflower field, produce picking areas, a petting zoo, food vendors, their own shop full of fall goodies, and more. There are so many fun activities at this farm that you can easily spend an entire afternoon there.

Activity #2: Rise of the Jack O' Lanterns

I have always heard about this popular Long Island activity, but I have never actually gone until this year. Rise of the Jack O' Lanterns is an amazing display of over 5,000 pumpkins that are carved weekly by only 50 artists! The detail that goes into carving each pumpkin is insane. Essentially, there is a mapped out trail that you follow to see pumpkins of all sizes, carvings, and even displays. There are also pumpkins put together in order to create large scenes, such as an entire farm with animals made out of carved pumpkins. It is an amazing sight, and I recommend going if you never have before. Make sure to purchase tickets online in advance since there are a limited amount of spots available each night!

Activity #3: Admire the Fall Foliage

Personally, I think fall is the most beautiful time of the year, especially in upstate New York. If you have the chance, I highly recommend traveling upstate to do some hiking, or just for a day trip to experience the season upstate. The drive through the mountains with the vibrant fall colors is like no other fall experience. Long Island falls are nice too, but to truly experience the season, you need to plan a trip upstate. I highly recommend getting outdoors and enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather before it gets too cold.

I hope you enjoyed my brief post about the fall season! While there are of course many other activities to do, such as a haunted house, Fright Fest at Six Flags, and Fall Festival celebrations, I wanted to focus on the three activities that I have done so far this season. In New York, fall turns into winter way too quickly, so take advantage of these fun, seasonal activities while you still can!

Many more posts to come(:
