The Ultimate NY Summer Bucket List

Updated: May 1, 2020

Welcome to my first-ever blog post!

Very proud of how blog-worthy this image I snapped is...my first layout!

Since I am starting this blog around the end of spring/beginning of summer, I decided to focus my first post on what to do this summer! Specifically, I wanted to focus on a list of must do NY activities, or in other words, a bucket list. In this list, there are a wide range of ideas; from low priced, local activities to higher priced, ultimate NY excursions. There will surely be at least one idea on this post that you will want to do this summer! Additionally, I will specify whether the bucket list idea is located on Long Island, in the city, or further upstate. I have done some of the activities on this list (so leave a comment if you have any questions!) and some of these activities are on my own bucket list for summer 2018! Let me know which you decide to put on your own list, as well as what is on your NY bucket list that I missed.

1. A weekend getaway to Lake George

* Located about ~4 hours from central Long Island

* Numerous outdoor activities, including parasailing, jet skiing, a quaint town, and more!

2. Hike the Catskill Mountains (upstate)

* An endless amount of beautiful hikes

3. Explore Planting Fields Arboretum (Oyster Bay, LI)

* Wander around numerous gardens as the flowers bloom

4. Visit the Bronx Zoo (Bronx, NY)

5. Helicopter tour over New York City (NYC)

* Flynyon will provide an amazing, photogenic tour from a private helicopter

* This is one of the top things to do on my own bucket list!

* It is the most expensive activity on this list, so save up!

6. Go to Jones Beach or Robert Moses at least once a week (LI)

7. Splish Splash Water Park (Riverhead, LI)

8. Day trip to Coney Island (Coney Island, NY)

9. Do an Escape Room (numerous locations)

* Can you escape a mysterious room in less than 1 hour with your friends?

* There are different levels, so choose beginner if it is your first time--they can be difficult!

10. Participate in The Color Run (numerous locations)

* I did a Color Run a few years back and it was AMAZING!

11. Visit the Long Island Aquarium (Riverhead, LI)

* A great day trip for all ages!

* They also offer shark diving if you would like to make it more ultimate

12. Montauk weekend getaway (Montauk, NY)

13. Go RailBiking (North Creek, NY)

* About a 30 minute drive from Lake George

* Ride a 2 or 4 person bike on railroad tracks (~6 mile round trip) through sections of the Adirondacks!

14. Go skydiving at Skydive Long Island (Shirley, LI)

15. Camp on the beach and have a beach bonfire (LI)

* Not all beaches allow overnight camping, but I know Short Beach (Smithtown, LI) does

16. Go kayaking or canoeing (numerous locations)

* Every year I go canoeing down the Nissequogue River (LI)

* You can rent canoes/kayaks, transportation is provided, and there is a park to stop at for a picnic along the river

17. Attend an outdoor concert (numerous locations)

18. Go to Smorgasburg (Williamsburg or Prospect Park, NY)

* This is a GIANT food festival open every weekend from April to October

19. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn, NY)

* This is a must do city day trip if you have never done it!

20. Paint Nite (numerous locations)

* Food, drink, and painting!

* Follow along with a professional artist as they walk you thought a step-by-step process

* No experience is needed! I am a horrible painter, but this is a fun night out!

21. Go to a rooftop bar (NYC)

* Some of the best (in my opinion) include 230 Fifth, Refinery Rooftop, and Monarch, but there are sooo many options in the city that never sleeps

22. Visit as many state parks as possible

* New York has so many state parks to explore! Check out their website to plan your day

23. Go to a baseball game (numerous locations)

* A baseball game is a summertime MUST (lets go Mets!)

24. Explore your local villages

* Some of my favorites on Long Island include Port Jefferson Village, Northport Harbor, and Babylon Village

25. Do something fun everyday

* I like to add this to the end of every bucket list to remind myself to have fun this summer! Even though summer still does include work and school, it is the nicest time of the year to participate in all of the wonderful outdoor activities the state of NY has to offer!

I hope you enjoyed my first blog post! Check out the pictures below for a few of my summer adventures, as well as in the footer of all of my pages.

Many more posts to come :)
